Dear Families and Staff,
We sincerely hope that your families are safe and doing well, given these historic circumstances. We appreciate the fact that all of you have been patient. Due to the significant impact of the recent blizzard, Cranston Public Schools is moving to Distance Learning beginning Thursday, February 26, until further notice. While our school staff and city crews are working very hard to remove snow, the current conditions make a physical opening unsafe for students, faculty & staff for the following reasons:
- Most of our school campuses have not been cleared well enough to have access to buildings. We are using the equipment we have, but in some cases, it is not sufficient for the amount of snow.
- Sidewalks and walking routes are not yet cleared, making it dangerous for students who walk to school and or bus stops.
- The city has prioritized clearing main streets, which are in decent shape. However, many secondary roads in Cranston remain unplowed or narrow, creating significant hazards for buses and drivers.
- Several of our primary parking lots are currently unplowed, leaving no place for staff and visitors to park.
Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM, students should have a device ready to log into Google Classroom.
- Students should log into Virtual Learning Plan for further instructions.
- If you have a concern or question, please reach out to your school principal or other school staff for assistance.
- We are currently working with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League(RIIL) in order to establish dates and times for athletic events and will share information as it becomes available.
- Special education services will be provided as noted on your child’s Distance Learning Plan within their IEP.
- Service providers will contact families regarding the schedule.
- If you have a meeting scheduled, your child’s case manager will contact you directly regarding a virtual link for the meeting.
We hope to be back in our schools next week. Please be on the lookout for messages from us through the weekend.
Again, we sincerely appreciate your patience as we continue with our blizzard recovery efforts.
Thank you,
The Cranston Public Schools Leadership Team
