Dear Students and Families,

My name is Angie Hartley, your child’s fourth grade teacher at Gladstone Street School.  I am very excited to meet you and can’t wait to share a fantastic year with all of you!

First, let me tell you a little about myself.  I grew up in Massachusetts where my mom was a teacher and my dad worked for the post office.  I have a really strong sense of public service.  I received my teaching degree in New Hampshire in 2010 and have been teaching all over the world ever since.  I spent two years teaching English in Korea and moved to Providence in 2014.  Today I am very proud to call Cranston my home.  In 2018 I finished my Master’s degree at the University of Rhode Island.  I have honored my pledge to be a lifelong learner by completing a certificate in Digital Literacy and continuing to work with the program at the university.  This is my eighth year teaching at Gladstone Street School.

This year, the focus in our classroom will be on teaching one another and working together as a respectful community.  I believe each member of my classroom, including families, has an important and unique role.  We all have a lot to teach and learn from each other.  Students will understand literacy and mathematics while gaining twenty-first century skills in communication and collaboration.  We are integrating Project Based Learning so students can learn how to solve authentic problems.

If you ever have any questions or need anything at all, please feel free to email or call me at the school.  I will be communicating with you through text messaging and the Talking Points app.  Please be sure to share an updated phone number with me.  Now more than ever we need to work together as a community.  I truly value and respect your work as families.  I hope we can work together to make your student successful this year.

Estimados Estudiantes y Familias,

Mi nombre es Angie Hartley, la maestra de cuarto grado de su hijo en Gladstone Street School. ¡Estoy muy emocionada de conocerte y no puedo esperar para compartir un año fantástico con todos ustedes!

Primero, déjeme decirle un poco sobre mí. Yo crecí en Massachusetts donde mi mamá era una maestra y mi papá trabajó para la oficina de correos. Tengo un sentido muy fuerte de servicio público. Recibí mi título de maestra  en New Hampshire en 2010 y he estado enseñando en todo el mundo desde entonces. Pasé dos años enseñando Inglés en Korea y me mudé a Providence en el 2014. Hoy estoy muy orgullosa de llamar a Cranston mi hogar.  En 2018 terminé mi maestría en la Universidad de Rhode Island. Este es mi octavo año enseñando en Gladstone Street School.

Este año, el enfoque en nuestro salón de clases será enseñar y trabajar juntos como una comunidad respetuosa. Creo que cada miembro de mi clase, incluyendo familias, tiene un papel importante y único. Todos tenemos mucho que enseñar y aprender unos de otros. Los estudiantes comprenderán la literatura y matemáticas mientras ganan las habilidades del siglo XXI en comunicación y colaboración.  Estamos integrando el Aprendizaje Basado en Projectos para que los estudiantes puedan aprender a resolver problemas auténticos.
